From News Center (Text and Photo by Liu Shipeng, International Exchange Department (Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs Office)) On October 16, the “Liuzhou Embraces the Sea, Intelligence Shapes the Future” Dragon City Tour for International Students in Liuzhou was held. Six international student representatives from Liuzhou Polytechnic University (LZPU), hailing from Indonesia, Laos, Thailand, Vietnam, Afghanistan, and Guinea, visited the Liuzhou Military Museum Park, Longtan Park, SGMW Baojun Base, and the Jiangkou Operations Area of Luzhai Port Area at the Port of Liuzhou, experiencing the city’s past and present while discovering its charm and vitality.

In the morning, the students and teachers began their tour at the Liuzhou Military Museum Park. At the permanent exhibition on the Flying Tigers, more than 1,000 historical artifacts, photographs, and a 270-degree circular-screen projection brought to life the history of China and the United States fighting side by side against Japanese aggression during World War II. Standing before the circular-screen exhibition hall, Indonesian student Ryo Carnavaro said, “Peace must be protected by every generation.” The students and teachers then visited Longtan Park. Karst peak clusters, stilt houses overlooking clear waters, and the distinctive traditions of ethnic minority communities created a picturesque setting. As Thai student Xiong Zhuyu photographed the outline of a wind-rain bridge, the student remarked, “The scenery here is so beautiful, and I’ve truly fallen in love with this place.” While exploring traditional ethnic musical instruments, the students watched a folk artisan perform the song “Folk Song Flows Like Spring River” using an ordinary leaf. This prompted Lao student Ning An to repeatedly raise a phone to record the performance and exclaim, “That's amazing!”

The students and teachers then toured SGMW Baojun Base. Robotic arms moved with precision as intelligent guided vehicles (IGVs) traveled through the facility, and the flexible production system, in which vehicles move to workstations and materials are delivered to vehicles, repeatedly amazed the students. Guinean student Wang Xiaolong said, “This place is truly impressive, and I really like Wuling vehicles because they’re convenient and intelligent.”

The final stop was the Jiangkou Operations Area of Luzhai Port Area at the Port of Liuzhou. Portal cranes lifted cargo with precision as containers were handled in an orderly manner along the Liujiang River. Looking out over the waterway, Afghan student Mohammadi Fayaz said, “I am committed to mastering professional skills at the university and working hard to achieve outstanding success in maritime-oriented economic and trade activities in the future.”

Through four dimensions—international friendship, ecological quality, intelligent manufacturing, and opening-up and development—the event helped international students gain a deeper understanding of Liuzhou’s industrial vitality and urban transformation, embodying the idea of “Knowing Liuzhou, Befriending Liuzhou, and Loving Liuzhou” by encouraging students to explore the city on foot. Over the course of a single day, the young people from six countries experienced the depth of the city’s history, the beauty of its natural landscapes, and the dynamism of its industries, making the cross-cultural experience itself a valuable form of exchange.
