From News Center (Text and Photo by Yuan Xiaoxia and Liu Yihong from School of Trade and Tourism Management) From October 15 to 18, 2026, the National Finals (Higher Vocational Division) of the 5th Cross-Border E-Commerce Skills and Data Analysis competition, part of the 2026 Belt & Road and BRICS Competition of Skills Development and Technology Innovation, were held at Guizhou Electronic Commerce Vocational College. The event was jointly organized by the BRICS Business Council (BRICS BC), the International Alliance of Skills Development for Belt & Road and BRICS (IASDBR), the China Center for International People-to-People Exchange of the Ministry of Education, and other organizations.

In this competition, Liuzhou Polytechnic University (LZPU)'s team, comprising Guo Linli and Luo Juanfei from E-Commerce Class 1, enrolled in 2024, and coached by Liu Yihong and Yuan Xiaoxia from the School of Trade and Tourism Management, won second prize in the national finals. Liu Yihong and Yuan Xiaoxia were both honored with the title of “Outstanding Instructor.” In recognition of its outstanding organizational work, LZPU also received the “Outstanding Organization Award” from the Organizing Committee of the Belt & Road and BRICS Competition of Skills Development and Technology Innovation and IASDBR.

A total of 3,050 teams from across China participated in this year’s competition, with 100 teams ultimately advancing to the national finals after three stages: preliminary rounds, semifinals, and finals. The competition comprised several components, including assessments of cross-border e-commerce knowledge, practical skills tests, cross-border e-commerce data analysis and report writing, on-site presentations, and question-and-answer sessions. Despite challenges such as competing outside their academic specialization and having limited preparation time, LZPU’s students and instructors worked together to secure the second prize.

The Belt & Road and BRICS Competition of Skills Development and Technology Innovation is an international competition recognized by the Preparatory Committee of BRICS Summit 2017, registered with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, and approved by BRICS BC. Since its launch in 2017, nine editions of the competition have been held successfully, attracting more than 300,000 participations in competitions and related conferences, exhibitions, demonstrations, and technical exchanges. For nine consecutive years, its achievements have been included in the BRICS Business Council Annual Report submitted to BRICS leaders, making it an important platform for promoting educational cooperation, skills development, and people-to-people exchanges among BRICS countries. The competition has received strong recognition from BRICS countries and support from relevant organizations affiliated with China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, and the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council.

The competition received strong attention and support from the university leadership and the leadership of the School of Trade and Tourism Management, and the team’s participation and achievements will further advance the transformation and upgrading of LZPU’s training programs for urgently needed talent in cross-border e-commerce skills and data analysis, while contributing significantly to the exploration and integration of international industry needs, occupational standards, and academic program teaching standards under emerging cross-border e-commerce business models, as well as the cultivation of interdisciplinary, innovative, and internationally oriented professionals.
