From News Center (Text by Qin Weiyin, International Exchange Department (Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs Office); Photo by the conference organizer) From October 15 to 17, the World Vocational and Technical Education Development Conference 2026 was grandly held in Tianjin. China's Minister of Education Huai Jinpeng met with Brian Yuliarto, Indonesia's Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, who attended the conference. The two ministers signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on cooperation in higher vocational education. Multiple China–Indonesia vocational education cooperation projects undertaken by Liuzhou Polytechnic University (LZPU) were included in the MOU, securing support from both governments.

Under the cooperation agreement, China and Indonesia will collaborate in higher vocational education in fields including artificial intelligence applications, construction machinery, and new energy vehicles to cultivate skilled talent. The two countries will also support the establishment of the China-Indonesia Engineering Technology Center and the China-Indonesia Higher Vocational Education Lecturers Training Center, building on existing cooperation projects.

LZPU has been actively engaged in vocational education cooperation with Indonesia for many years. In partnership with LiuGong Machinery Co., Ltd., the university established the China-ASEAN Institute of Modern Craftsmanship, which has trained 414 skilled personnel for the construction machinery sector through tailored training programs. In 2026, with support from both governments, LZPU and Politeknik Manufaktur Bandung jointly established the China-Indonesia Engineering and Technology College, marking the establishment of Indonesia's first New Energy Vehicle Engineering Department in higher vocational education. On October 17, at the closing ceremony of the World Vocational and Technical Education Development Conference 2026, LZPU, with approval from China's Ministry of Education, signed an agreement with the Director Forum of State Polytechnics Indonesia (FDPNI) and the Indonesian Vocational Higher Education Forum (FPTVI), representing 186 public vocational education institutions, to launch the joint development of the China-Indonesia Higher Vocational Education Lecturers Training Center. This swift response to the cooperation consensus reached by the two ministers demonstrated LZPU's determination and capacity to advance practical vocational education cooperation between China and Indonesia.

In recent years, to promote broader vocational education cooperation between China and Indonesia, LZPU took the lead in establishing the China-Indonesia TVET Industry-Education Alliance with approval from the China Education Association for International Exchange. Through the alliance, LZPU initiated and implemented the Indonesia-China Vocational Education Enhancement Program, leading institutions from both countries in jointly developing teaching standards for two majors—Mechatronics and Mechatronic Engineering—as well as standards for 28 courses. The program has also resulted in the publication of 18 textbooks in Indonesia, effectively addressing challenges in aligning curricula for dual-degree cooperative education programs between Chinese and Indonesian vocational institutions. The alliance organizes monthly China-Indonesia Vocational Education Lectures to facilitate exchanges between teachers and industry engineers from both countries. It also holds annual cooperation matchmaking meetings for Chinese and Indonesian institutions, facilitating the signing of cooperation agreements between 45 pairs of institutions. These efforts have generated substantial influence, with alliance membership rapidly expanding to 344 organizations, making it the largest platform for China-Indonesia vocational education cooperation. Through the newly signed MOU, the two ministers agreed to support the China-Indonesia TVET Industry-Education Alliance in fulfilling its role as a cooperation platform and in promoting and strengthening bilateral cooperation between higher vocational education institutions in both countries. This represents strong recognition of both the alliance's past achievements and LZPU's organizational and coordination capabilities.

Looking ahead, LZPU will continue to play a leading role in China-Indonesia vocational education cooperation, advance the practical implementation of relevant cooperation projects, and ensure they deliver tangible results. The university will further deepen vocational education cooperation between China and Indonesia and work with governments, educational institutions, industries, and enterprises across ASEAN to jointly study industry needs, develop teaching standards, establish cooperation platforms, and share the benefits of a collaborative development ecosystem, contributing to skilled talent cultivation and the high-quality development of vocational education across the ASEAN region.
